Additional learning support
At Lawrence Hargrave School, providing highly specialised and individualised support is the foundation of our entire school environment. As a School for Specific Purposes, we recognise that every student has a unique learning profile. We take a holistic, whole-school approach to ensure all students are empowered to engage meaningfully, develop practical life skills and achieve their personal best.
Support that fits your child's needs
We work in close partnership with families and carers to co-design support strategies that reflect each student's strengths, goals and cultural background. Our daily learning support encompasses:
- Developing comprehensive Personalised Learning Plans for every student across all stages
- Delivering tailored functional learning and life skills programmes that build independence and confidence
- Fostering cultural safety and inclusive practices embedded across the whole school curriculum
- Providing proactive wellbeing monitoring and daily support to ensure students feel regulated and ready to learn
- Making individualised adjustments to classroom environments, sensory spaces and learning materials
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
Learning and support team
Our learning and support team uses a collaborative, case management approach to ensure every student receives the exact help they need. We understand that every student's pathway is different, and our ultimate goal is to foster positive re-engagement with schooling and build a foundation for lifelong learning.
The team works closely with families, carers and support staff to:
- understand each student's unique needs
- plan practical adjustments and targeted supports
- monitor academic and wellbeing progress
- refine support plans to ensure they remain effective
- connect students and families with additional external services.
Every student is supported by a dedicated and collaborative network of professionals. Depending on your child's individual needs, this team will include:
- our school leadership, including the principal, deputy principal and executive staff, who oversee overarching support strategies
- dedicated classroom teachers who provide daily, individualised learning and care
- the school counsellor to support social and emotional wellbeing
- our Team Around a School (TAaS), engaged when targeted, multi-agency support is necessary
- specialist external agencies, collaborating with us to deliver complete, wrap-around support.
