Course Description
The Stage 6 Geography Life Skills course provides opportunities for students to develop knowledge and understanding about the characteristics and distribution of a range of environments. Students develop an understanding of the relationships between geographical processes, human activity and environments.
Study of the Stage 6 Geography Life Skills course should contribute to students’ skills in using geographical tools as well as investigating and communicating geographically.
Main Topics Covered
The structure of the Geography Life Skills course allows teachers to provide a broad and balanced program that reflects the needs of individual students within the context of the collaborative curriculum planning process. Students may study selected outcomes and content within the course.
Study of the Geography Life Skills course involves:
- knowledge and understanding of characteristics and distribution of environments
- knowledge and understanding of the processes that form and transform the features and patterns of the environment
- knowledge and understanding of global and local forces which impact on people, urban places and economic activity
- knowledge and understanding of ecosystems and the geographical challenges facing Australia and the world
- developing skills in using geographical tools and investigating and communicating geographically

On entering students for the Geography Life Skills course, the principal is certifying that the student is eligible and the decision is the result of the collaborative curriculum planning process.
Assessment
Students are assessed in relation to the selected Geography Life Skills outcomes and content. Students may achieve Life Skills outcomes independently or with support. Demonstration of achievement of outcomes is recorded on the Profile of Student Achievement.
